On Monday 23^rd October 2017 at 11:00am over 60 people gathered outside number 11 Pavilion Road, Gorleston, the former home of lifeboat hero Coxswain William Fleming GC. They came to witness the unveiling of a blue plaque to celebrate Fleming’s work as a lifeboatman. The plaque was provided by the Gorleston-on-Sea Heritage Group and their chairman Les Cockrill introduced the assembled crowd to Jim Carter the President of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston RNLI who told the story of the famous SS Hopelyn rescue of 1922 where 24 men and a cat were saved. The plaque was then unveiled by the current Coxswain of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston RNLI Lifeboat, Paddy Lee. After the ceremony the party adjourned to the Gorleston Pavilion for refreshments and to view a small display about William Fleming put together by members of GoSH.
